MIAMI PROGRESSIVE PROJECTS

The New Florida Majority
"The New Florida Majority is an independent organization working to increase the voting and political power of marginalized and excluded constituencies toward an inclusive, equitable, and just Florida. We believe in a participatory democracy where people can be their whole selves. We train grassroots citizens to be leaders, mobilize communities to vote, educate the public to share our values, and inspire Floridians to take action toward their dreams. We organize people, ideas, and resources to build a powerful new vision for Florida’s new majority. A cornerstone of our beliefs is defending and expanding the voting rights of all citizens, including those who are new to the country, raising children on their own, struggling to make a living, or returning from incarceration. We believe that a strong democracy for all makes a better Florida for everyone."

"MWC is Miami’s leading social change nonprofit organization that fights for social, racial, economic and gender justice in Miami, Florida. We work to unite and grow the power of low-income Latinos and African-Americans from some of the most vulnerable neighborhoods of Miami, such as Liberty City, Wynwood, Appalatah and Little Havana. We fight for good paying jobs, affordable housing, immigrant rights, the protection of domestic workers and victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse."

Gun Violence Research and Advocacy Program

"Our mission is to continually improve Ryder Trauma Center’s response to gun violence. The efforts of GVRAP start with improving services for the individual gunshot victim and expand outwards into advocacy work within the medical community and Miami-Dade community to raise awareness of gun violence and promote its prevention. This stems from an understanding that comprehensive trauma systems are ideal public health models and include community prevention, pre-hospital triage, emergency medical care, and rehabilitation services. GVRAP is building capacity to address gun violence in each of these domains and contributing to the growing research body for the public health epidemic of gun violence."
